Memphis Grizzlies at Chicago Bulls NBA 8PM ET

Memphis Grizzlies at Chicago Bulls NBA 8PM ET thumbnail

The Chicago Bulls travel to the the FedExForum in Memphis today to play the Grizzlies. The game starts at 8PM Eastern. Both teams will be playing on two days rest. Similarly, they sit third in their respective divisions both looking for second.

Memphis (35-32) has won five of their last seven. During this streak OJ Mayo shot over 50% from the floor and put up 20 or more points. In the Grizzlies’ last game on Saturday versus Denver, Mayo had 25 points and went six for six from the free throw line. Mayo has averaged 17.7 points per game this season along with 3.1 assists while shooting 37.4% from the three.

Chicago (31-34) on the other hand is struggling to compete without their top four scorers. The Bulls are missing a list of players: Luol Deng, Kirk Hinrich, Jerome James, Joakim Noah, and Derrick Rose. Rose, who has lead the Chicago with 20.4 points per game and 5.7 assists left Thursday’s game against Orlando with a sprained wrist. Though he is doubtful to start, recent Sports Center reports claim Rose’s sore wrist might not keep him off the floor entirely.

Many books passed on putting up an overnight line on this game because of the day-to-day status of Bull’s lead scorer, Derrick Rose. Odds makers opened the line at 9.5, and it quickly moved to 10.5 and 11 at some books.

Rose’s injury is not a good sign for the Bulls. They’ve lost seven straight games and fall out of playoff position in the Eastern Conference. This is the Bulls’ longest losing streak since they lost eight straight in the 2005 – 2006 season. Chicago is five games behind Milwaukee and ninth overall in the East.

Though Memphis is hot, they haven’t been doing well against the spread, and it’s even worse at home. Memphis is 1-3-1 at the spread in their last five games and 0-4-1 at the spread at home. It’s a different story historically against Chicago specifically. They are 9-1 both straight up and against the spread when playing at home versus Chicago. In their last head-to-head match-up two weeks ago, the Grizzlies beat the Bulls in Chicago 105 – 96 and covered the spread as five point underdogs.
