BYU (28-4) in the regular season is looking to make it to the third round of the tournament. The last time they made it was in 1981. The seventh seeded Cougars finished off the Florida Gators 99 – 92 in double overtime on Thursday. They match up tonight against the K-State Wildcats, something they’ve done once before in 2002 where BYU beat K-State on the road 73 – 64.
The Cougars have one of the best players int country in Jimmer Fredette who averaged 22.1 points per game during the regular season. The 6’2″ guard also had 4.7 assists and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 44.4% from the three. Fredette had a career high 37 points in Thursday’s double overtime game against Florida. A tough player with sights on the NBA, the junior from New York is expected to put up his best effort yet tonight.
BYU is the highest scoring team in the league at 83.4 points per game. They also lead the league in free throw percentage at 78.6. This compares noticeably higher to Kansas State which averaged 79.6 points per game and only 66.4% from the free throw line.
The Kansas State Wildcats come into today’s game after dominating North Texas 82-62. As expected K-State’s guard play out paced North Texas with no shortage of scoring. Denis Clemente had 17 points and six assists. The Wildcats also have Jacob Pullen in the back court. Pullen, the 6′ junior guard has lead the Wildcats with an average of 18.8 points per game this season. Pullen also averaged 3.5 assists and 2.6 rebounds while shooting 38.3% from the three and 80.7% from the free throw line.
The total on this match up opened at 154.5 with movement pushing the total up to 157. Lines makers as well as the public expect a hard fought, high scoring game this evening at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City.
