New York Yankees versus Los Angeles Angels Major League Baseball Preview

New York Yankees versus Los Angeles Angels Major League Baseball Preview thumbnail

In a coast to coast American League match-up, the LA Angels will travel to New York to play the Yankees. The three game home series for the Yankees starts Tuesday, April 13. Game time is 1:05 ET.

Ervin Santana is listed to start for the Angles. Coming into his second start of the season, Santana sports a 6.00 ERA after a 2-4 loss to Minnesota last Wednesday. The high ERA comes after giving up two home runs. Despite this, Santana has a walks and hits per innings pitched (WHIP) of 1.00.

The Angels are 2-5 overall which puts them three games behind the Oakland A’s in the AL West. The Angels have been blown out in three of their losses beginning with a 10-1 loss versus the Twins last Thursday. Joel Pineiro gave up three runs. Brian Stokes came in to relieve and also gave up three runs. Fernando Rodney’s relief wasn’t any better as he gave up four runs in the 9th inning. The Angels continued this type of performance losing 10-4 the next day versus Oakland.

Saturday proved to be a different experience for the Angles. Jered Weaver started on the mound, pitched six innings, and allowed only one run. New to Los Angeles, Hideki Matsui singled in the winning run to put the game in the books with the Angels on top of Oakland 4-3.

After a difficult road game stretch at Boston and Tampa Bay to start the 2010 season, the Yankees look to perform well versus the Angels and then the Rangers in what will be a six straight home game stretch. Based on the current match-up, the Yankees will be heavily favored in Tuesday’s game.

Andy Pettitte will start on the mound for the Yankees. Pettite pitched six innings and had one earned run in Boston last Wednesday in the Yankees’ 3-1 victory over the Red Sox. Pettitte comes into tonight’s game with a 1.50 ERA and a WHIP of 1.50. The Yankees are 4-2 so far this season, which puts them one game behind Toronto in the AL East.

The poorest guy in the Yankees’ infield, Robinson Cano, is on top of the Yankees’ leader board and ranks in the top nine in the AL in runs, home runs, and RBIs. Six games into the season Cano is credited with two HRs, six RBIs, and five runs. The Yankees’ second baseman has a .360 batting average and a .680 slugging percentage.
