The Chicago Bulls play the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game Two of the first round of the Western Conference Finals. Tip off at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland is at 8:00 ET. TV coverage is provided by TNT.
After a 96-83 loss in Game One, the question is can the Bulls come back to win Game Two. The consensus is no, and that’s why odds makers feel the Cavaliers are 1-8 favorites to win tonight’s game. The Cavaliers have never lost a seven game series when they have won Game One. With Chicago getting 10.5 points it is tough to see how things might change in tonight’s game. The total line is 191.
Despite having to match up against arguably the best team in the NBA, Chicago’s Derrick Rose had a great game. He scored 28 points with 10 assists.
Bulls’ center Joakim Noah continues to be outspoken this playoff season. He commented on Kevin Garnett’s elbowing in the Celtics’ opener versus Miami calling the Celtics’ forward a “dirty player.” Kevin Garnett will be suspended without pay, missing Boston’s Game Two.
Shaquille O’Neal showed that he is still a critical factor for Cleveland. After missing the final 23 games of the Cavaliers’ season with a thumb injury, the 38 year-old big man proved to be an asset on both sides of the ball. He was 5-9 from the field, scoring 12 points, and he also came away with three blocks.
LeBron James is a consistent threat. Cleveland knows what to expect out of him. The Cavalier’s success after the first round will rely on the execution of non starters. Delonte west, who averaged 8.8 points per game this season and shot 32.5% from beyond the three, played 24 minutes on Saturday and scored four points going 2-7 from the field.
Chicago needs to rebound better in tonight’s game. Cleveland had a 50-38 advantage in this category and got 13 offensive rebounds which lead to easy points. Though the Cavaliers have a definite size advantage in the interior, playoff time is about being aggressive and physical which can overcome other factors.
The total did go noticeably under the 194 point line on Saturday. Better Chicago rebounding will lead to less second chance shots for Cleveland. With both teams high scorers putting up standard to slightly above expected number of points, Game Two’s total shouldn’t be much different from Game One’s.
