The Chicago Bulls travel back home where they’ll face the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game Three of the first round of the Eastern Conference Finals. Tip off on Thursday at the United Center in Chicago is at 7:00 ET. TV coverage is provided by TNT.
Chicago, now 0-2 in the series, could not overcome the much favorite Cavaliers as they head home for two game stretch. A Cleveland victory on Thursday will virtually ensure that the Cavaliers move on to the second round of the playoffs.
Odds makers opened the line with the Cavaliers as four point favorites. Action on Chicago has moved the line to 3.5. The total stands at 193. The Chicago moneyline is currently +155 at Bookmaker.com.
What we’ve seen in the first round of the NBA playoffs is much favored one seeds hungry for more despite being up 2-0 in the first round series. Similar to Phil Jackson and his Lakers talking about not being satisfied with their performance against the Thunder, Cavaliers coach Mike Brown and LeBron James have been outspoken about not being complacent with their current performance.
The Cavaliers are out performing the Bulls in nearly every category. They are out shooting the Bulls 51% to 43.3%. They are out rebounding them by a 43-38 average and have 21 blocks to Chicago’s seven.
LeBron James is playing in the spotlight with a resonance of Cleveland’s new majority owner, scoring 40 points in Game Two. James is terrorizing the Bulls the way Jordan terrorized the Cavaliers during his career in Chicago. LeBron might have yet to show his best performance even though he went 6-6 from the free throw line and had eight rebounds and eight assists.
Cleveland is far dominant in this first series match up, and while Chicago is kicking and scratching on their way out of the post season, the Cavaliers have upheld a much more respectful, sportsmanlike demeanor. Bull’s center Joakim Noah made comments after Game Two jokingly criticizing the city of Cleveland. Maybe he’s right. Who wants to go to Cleveland except to watch championship level NBA basketball? LeBron commented on Wednesday that Chicago is “an awesome city” in addition to leaving reporters with other complimentary remarks.
After Game One it seemed plausible that Chicago could change up their defense and up their rebounding, yet Chicago is sinking fast. Despite Derrick Rose’s 51 points so far in the post-season, it’s obvious that double teaming LeBron is not going to cut it for Chicago in this series.
