Today versus the Marlins Bobby Cox has decided to start his best pitchers on short rest. His decision to
start Tim Hudson yesterday turned out for the best as he held the Marlins to one run in six innings
on just three days rest. It looks like Cox is planning to do the same with Derek Lowe today.
The Braves are looking to keep up their winning ways over the Marlins record season 10-7. The Braves are battling to get into the postseason since 2005. They will be doing so without the services of Martin Prado Prado had a MRI and found that he had a tore oblique muscle. His replacement will be Brooks Conrad. Conrad scored on Eric Hinske’s homerun Tuesday following his RBI triple.
Lowe is coming off a hard outing throwing 103 pitches in five innings Saturday in the Braves 5-0 win over
Washington. Dan Uggla has given Lowe many problems this season batting .426 with two home runs and three doubles in his 28 at bats. Uggla also hit his 32nd home run tueadsy and reached 100 RBI’s for the first time in his career. Against Atlanta in his last 12 games this season Florida’s second baseman has five homers and 12 RBI’s.
With Lowe struggling on a regular basis against the Marlins the Braves hope their offense will not have
a problem with Florida’s scheduled starter Andrew Miller who is 1-4 with an 8.19 ERA. Miller in his first
four starts has given up 31 hits and 12 walks in 14 2/3 innings. Most recently the lefty had his sixth
start against Milwaukee giving up four runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings in a 6-2 loss. Miller in his
career against the Braves is 3-0 with a 2.61 ERA in four starts. His greatest promise was shown on
September third when Miller gave up one run and seven hits in five innings in a 6-1 victory.
